You merely select the type of event you want to run - straight-up race, mano-a-mano cop vs. The preamble is far more automatic in the game's multiplayer arena. Cop chases, point-to-point races, concept and exotic car time trials - all the Need for Speed staples are here. Offline, those events (selected via an aerial view of Hot Pursuit's California-esque "Seacrest County" base of operations) form a career. Instead, players choose from a massive array of predefined one-off events spread over the game's single-player and online components. Hot Pursuit is, thankfully, a Need for Speed without a story. The game lacks in some areas, but most will look giddily past that. Dangerously addictive, too, particularly in its tactic-heavy online guise. racers at viciously high speeds in stunning environments - and, like 'roids, it's dangerous. It plays to the franchise's time-honored strengths - namely cops vs. Like a horse-worthy blast of steroids to the arse of an aging prizefighter, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit jolts a wheezing old veteran back to its aggressive, muscular prime.
